There are two speed settings, one for 5 mph (8 km/h) and one for 10 mph (16 km/h). You’ll only ever use the higher speed setting (at least, that’s how we used it). Perhaps if you put a really young child on there or one who doesn’t have the responsibility that 10 mph speeds command, then the low speed limit might be useful. The say you’ll get 15 miles (25 km) of range from the 288 Wh battery when using the low-speed setting.
